RIP eBay Live

I am so sad about this.

Ebay live was one of my best experiences at Ebay.  It helped us realize that in addition to being a marketplace, Ebay was also at its core, a community. We all saw that everyday through the site and through smaller conferences and trade shows.  But Ebay Live was a completely different ballgame.

The company has moved away from the core value of community over the years, and I think that it’s sad.  This is probably the nail in the coffin, unfortunately.  I don’t care how unruly your customers may be, the answer isn’t to avoid addressing their anger face to face.

I wonder if Ebay will stop printing the community’s core values on their employee badges too.  Maybe that’s already happened.  Sigh.
